Technology Reflection

Technology Reflection Assignment

Description/Experience

In the last class we had we went over two main programs that can be used in the classroom. The first one we went over was Edmodo which was introduced to use by a guest speaker from Clay Betel High School. I felt that Edmodo would be a great way of reaching students. It is very comparable to our ecampus.  The second program we went over was called Prezi. This program is similar to power point but is a little bit more high tech. I think with a little practice it will allow for me to master the program, as well I feel it makes for a cleaner presentation.

Application

In the two programs that I previously discussed I decided to pick Edmodo to use. I would first want the students to be able to use the technology and be comfortable with the webpage. I then would want for the students to be able to work on their own in responding to a question, and then being able to comment on other students in the classrooms responses. This activity would be meant for older grades probably 8th-12th. I would be able to read their responses to the questions that were originally posted and know if the students are grasping the concepts or not.
In class I would take the students to the computer lab and introduce the students to the website and get them set up and ready to use it. Then they would have that evening to log on to the web page and answer the question. The next day we would talk about the question and see what the students had to say. Lastly I would have the students comment on another classmate’s response.

Reflection

Pedagogy-Content:
I would represent the content to the students by demonstrating what they were to do. I would have them all get onto the computers and show them what the website was and how they were to use the website.
The preconceptions I would feel would be excitement. The fact that the site is similar to facebook would most likely make the students look forward to using it. I feel that the only problem that could arise is if you had students that did not have access to the internet at home.
Technology:
The major function of this technology is to use it for social networking. It allows for the students to log into their class and work with their fellow classmates via a web based chalk board.

It is an easy site to use and find. It could cause trouble if you had students in the classroom that were unable to have access to internet at home. But I feel that the percentage of students without internet would be low and you could find a way to work around this.
Technology-Pedagogy

The use of technology would be the students getting onto the internet, as well as getting onto the Edmodo site.

It would not necessarily change the way I teach it would change the way we follow up and review. I would still teach the students the lesson in a traditional way but they would be asked to answer questions of the lesson on the site later that night. This would allow for me to see which students were grasping the concepts.

This way of assigning work would allow for me the teacher and for the students to stay organized. The web page would have a calendar to allow them to look and see when each entry and response would be due. This would help the students to stay focused and keep up.
Technology-Content:
It would allow for the students to give me examples and explanations and deeper explain their knowledge for the subject after being taught the subject.

Instead of the students doing boring worksheets, they would be able to get onto the site and answer specific questions involving what they had learned that day. I feel it would also allow for them to get great review of the topics at the end of a day and help in retention of  the material.
Technology-Pedagogy-Content:

This technology would just be an assistant it would not be doing my job for me. It would allow for me to ask the students specific questions at the end of the day and give me instant feedback on what the students were able to retain from the day as well as what I needed to talk about more the next day.

It would just allow for me to give the students a new and fun way of practicing learning the material. It would be a great help in getting the students interested in their own learning.

I would teach in lecture style probably using a power point or Prezi program to give the students visual stimulation. I would also after each lesson show them what the questions would be for that night and ask the students if they had any questions.

  1. Great Job Zach! I agree that Edmodo should be used for the older children in grades 8-12. I also agree that the students will be very excited to use the program since it is similar to Facebook. I like how you said that this technology would assist you and not do the job for you. This is great to ask students specific questions and them give you feedback on Edmodo.
